I'll be taking some of our senior class for a visit in a downtown neighborhood today. I'm reminded a poignant verse of loss and "forsakeness" found in Lam. 5:20
"Why have you forgotten us completely? Why have you forsaken us these many days?"
The High School at the Vineyard is encouraging students to participate by creating care and justice teams to work in the community. Students have created a blog and will be looking for ways to bless. I'm reminded that our place in community requires a countertestimony to what the streets are declaring. Isa. 52:7 declares that "Our God reigns." Not just a nice thought on a rainy day. Or any day. It is an assertion that our faith is centered on. Acts of kindness and justice are in part an assertion of grace. The early liturgical song of Isa. is sing, sing, sing, bless, tell, declare....says it all. It has the feel of Jesus words of seeking first the kingdom of God and its rightousnesss...Our students will take on this distinctive vocation. Pray that God will richly bless.
The kid in the truck is my grandson Miles...there are no words to explain the gift he is...
